Additional Information / FAQ
What is CNC Plasma cutting?
Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Plasma Cutting is a manufacturing process where pre-programmed software instructs the machine in it's movement and operation.
What is mill scale?
The blue-gray color of Hot Rolled Steel, or "Raw" Steel in our available finishes, is actually Mill Scale. Mill Scale is an iron oxide surface formed by the high heat and pressure of hot rolling steel. Mill Scale does offer some limited protection for the steel underneath, but any break in the mill scale surface will allow rust to form. The thickness of Mill Scale is inconsistent, which gives the steel a worn or weathered look when sanded for our Raw Steel finish.
What is plasma cutting?
Plasma is formed by forcing air (gas) through a narrow orifice and causing it to ionize by applying an electric current. The plasma torch passes the plasma stream through conductive meterial (metal) by melting the material and then blowing it away. The plasma cutter can produce temperatures in excess of 30,000 degrees F.
about the material
Sheet metal can be sharp. We do our best to provide flat surfaces and dull edges, but our products should be handled with care to avoid injury.

Rust happens. Unfinished steel may rust quickly. A painted finish will prevent rust but may vary based on care and exposure to the elements.

Sheet steel stock may have scratches or blemishes in the mill scale or steel surface. Defects may be visible on unpainted or transparent steel finishes.
